HeiTech Padu Berhad, Malaysia’s leading information and communications technology company, is the first in the ASEAN region to use IBM’s new zEnterprise mainframe server.

From a performance standpoint, the zEnterprise Mainframe is the most powerful commercial IBM system ever. It includes up to 96 of the world’s fastest, most powerful microprocessors, capable of executing more than 50 billion instructions per second.

This performance will accommodate HeiTech’s business growth across the region and will be used to run workloads for HeiTech’s customers across a range of industries including banking, finance and public sector. The new zEnterprise will be located at HeiTech’s Tier IV Data Centre in the city of Shah Alam.

The new IBM zEnterprise System is the result of an investment of more than $1.5 billion in IBM research and development as well as more than three years of collaboration with some of IBM’s top clients around the world. It is also the first system capable of managing workloads running on the mainframe as well as select IBM Power and System x servers as a single virtualized system.

Dato’ Mohd Hilmey Mohd Taib, Executive Chairman of HeiTech said, “With the current economic climate and other threats, it is now more important than ever for organisations to maintain operational effectiveness and flexibility while benefitting from one of the most powerful, secure and robust IT infrastructures on the market. The IBM zEnterprise opens up the possibility of hosting entire workloads on a single, highly-integrated system and is set to support HeiTech’s customers which are running some of the most demanding and mission-critical applications on the planet.”

The IBM zEnterprise System will support HeiTech’s business growth plans over the next five years especially as it takes its services to other countries in the ASEAN market. To do this, HeiTech will collaborate with IBM to offer this solution to interested customers in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. In Malaysia the system will be used to manage the huge databases of HeiTech’s existing public sector customers. The new system will provide HeiTech Padu with a competitive differentiator in the market place and is further validation of its approach to managing service delivery.

“The new IBM zEnterprise System represents a bold move to fundamentally change how data centers are managed,” said Ramanathan Sathiamutty, Managing Director, IBM Malaysia. “The new mainframe is the fastest enterprise server in the world and represents a giant leap forward in performance. We are excited to partner with HeiTech Padu to provide the best infrastructure for their customers and help realize the company’s vision of growth whilst improving performance.”

Dato’ Hilmey continued, “The IBM zEnterprise is the best solution ever to effortlessly support our customers’ growing business needs. Our investment will benefit our customers by helping them achieve better business efficiency through an increased level of responsiveness, better value and higher customer satisfaction. Our customers can rest assured that their data will be managed efficiently, securely and cost effectively.”

According to one of the website in India, Dell has confirmed that some of its PowerEdge server motherboards have been shipped to customers with embedded spyware.

According to Dell, the damage is limited to replacement motherboards for four Dell server products – PowerEdge R310, PowerEdge R410, PowerEdge R510 and PowerEdge T410. However, the exact malware type, and how it managed its way onto the motherboards is still not clear.

“As part of Dell’s quality process, we have identified a potential issue with our service mother board stock, like the one you received for your PowerEdge R410, and are taking preventative action with our customers accordingly. The potential issue involves a small number of PowerEdge server motherboards sent out through service dispatches that may contain malware. This malware code has been detected on the embedded server management firmware as you indicated.”

“We take matters of information security very seriously and believe that any impact to a customer’s information security is unlikely. To date we have received no customer reports related to data security. Systems running non-Windows operating systems are not vulnerable to this malware and this issue is not present on motherboards shipped new with PowerEdge systems.”

“We have assembled a customer list and are directly contacting customers like you through a call campaign. On the call, you should be provided a phone number to call if you have additional questions.”

Microsoft ISA Server 2006 Service Pack 1 have been released!

The new features focus on configuration change management and enhanced troubleshooting designed to help you identify and resolve ISA Server configuration issues within the ISA Server Management console.

The service pack includes the following new features and feature improvements:

• Configuration Change Tracking—Registers all configuration changes applied to ISA Server to help you assess issues that may occur as a result of these changes.
• Test Button—Tests the consistency of a Web publishing rule between the published server and ISA Server.
• Traffic Simulator—Simulates network traffic in accordance with specified request parameters, such as an internal user and the Web server, providing information about firewall policy rules evaluated for the request.
• Diagnostic Logging Viewer—Now integrated as a tab into the ISA Server Management console, this feature displays detailed events on packet progress and provides information about handling and rule matching.
Improvements for existing features, including:
• Support for integrated NLB mode in all three modes, including unicast, multicast, and multicast with Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP). Previously, ISA Server integrated NLB-supported unicast mode only.
• Support for use of server certificates containing multiple Subject Alternative Name (SAN) entries. Previously, ISA Server was able to use either only either the subject name (common name) of a server certificate, or the first entry in the SAN list.
• Support for Kerberos Constrained Delegation (KCD) cross-domain authentication. Credentials from users located in a different domain than the ISA Server, but in the same forest, can now be delegated to an internal published Web site by using KCD .
• Support for client certificate authentication in a workgroup deployment. This removes the requirement to map each client certificate to an Active Directory® directory user account.

The interesting article “How to extend the Windows Server 2008 evaluation period” can be found on Microsoft Support and Help.

Many system administrator like me are testing Microsoft Windows 2008 and normally installing Windows Server 2008 without a key gives you a 60 day evaluation period.

Come on, let extend Windows Server 2008 evaluation period to 240 days.

INTRODUCTION
Evaluating Windows Server 2008 software does not require product activation. Any edition of Windows Server 2008 may be installed without activation, and it may be evaluated for 60 days. Additionally, the 60-day evaluation period may be reset (re-armed) three times. This action extends the original 60-day evaluation period by up to 180 days for a total possible evaluation time of 240 days.

Note In the Windows Server 2008 Evaluation DVD package, there is a 120-day initial evaluation period. You can extend the evaluation period to 240 days. To extend the initial evaluation and testing period, follow the steps in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

How to install Windows Server 2008 without activating it
1.	Run the Windows Server 2008 Setup program.
2.	When you are prompted to enter a product key for activation, do not enter a key. Click No when Setup asks you to confirm your selection.
3.	You may be prompted to select the edition of Windows Server 2008 that you want to evaluate. Select the edition that you want to install.
Note After Windows Server 2008 is installed, the edition cannot be changed without reinstalling it.
4.	When you are prompted, read the evaluation terms in the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then accept the terms.
5.	When the Windows Server 2008 Setup program is finished, your initial 60-day evaluation period starts. To check the time that is left on your current evaluation period, run the Slmgr.vbs script that is in the System32 folder. Use the -dli switch to run this script. The slmgr.vbs -dli command displays the number of days that are left in the current 60-day evaluation period.

How to manually extend the evaluation period
When the initial 60-day evaluation period nears its end, you can run the Slmgr.vbs script to reset the evaluation period. To do this, follow these steps:
1.	Click Start, and then click Command Prompt.
2.	Type slmgr.vbs -dli, and then press ENTER to check the current status of your evaluation period.
3.	To reset the evaluation period, type slmgr.vbs –rearm, and then press ENTER.
4.	Restart the computer.
This resets the evaluation period to 60 days.

How to automate the extension of the evaluation period
You may want to set up a process that automatically resets the evaluation period every 60 days. One way to automate this process is by using the Task Scheduler. You can configure the Task Scheduler to run the Slmgr.vbs script and to restart the server at a particular time. To do this, follow these steps:
1.	Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Task Scheduler.
2.	Copy the following sample task to the server, and then save it as an .xml file. For example, you can save the file as Extend.xml.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
