The computer tech giant, Dell Inc Corporation, will be abandoning BlackBerry smartphone platform, in favor of its own smartphones that are powered by Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 operating system, and Google’s Android mobile OS.

The company will start by replacing 25,000 BlackBerry smartphones with the company’s own Venture Pro smartphone, the company’s latest Windows Phone 7 device. Dell will later give employees the option of using smartphones powered by Google Android.

Dell says it would save a significant amount of money by avoiding hefty BlackBerry Enterprise Server licenses, but the company at the same time would be operating at a less than optimal level on mobile security, and would forego the benefits of the seamless BlackBerry Messaging service.

A senior Dell employee at the company’s headquarters who commented on condition of anonymity said he was skeptical of the cost savings, and that not all people at the company welcomed the transition, citing the ease of use of the BlackBerry platform.

The announcement comes as the launch date nears for the debut of Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

Good luck to Dell and Microsoft Windows Phone 7.

According to one of the website in India, Dell has confirmed that some of its PowerEdge server motherboards have been shipped to customers with embedded spyware.

According to Dell, the damage is limited to replacement motherboards for four Dell server products – PowerEdge R310, PowerEdge R410, PowerEdge R510 and PowerEdge T410. However, the exact malware type, and how it managed its way onto the motherboards is still not clear.

“As part of Dell’s quality process, we have identified a potential issue with our service mother board stock, like the one you received for your PowerEdge R410, and are taking preventative action with our customers accordingly. The potential issue involves a small number of PowerEdge server motherboards sent out through service dispatches that may contain malware. This malware code has been detected on the embedded server management firmware as you indicated.”

“We take matters of information security very seriously and believe that any impact to a customer’s information security is unlikely. To date we have received no customer reports related to data security. Systems running non-Windows operating systems are not vulnerable to this malware and this issue is not present on motherboards shipped new with PowerEdge systems.”

“We have assembled a customer list and are directly contacting customers like you through a call campaign. On the call, you should be provided a phone number to call if you have additional questions.”

Martin said: First impressions using a Dell Streak are very positive. As I use Mac, this is the first Dell product I ever use. At 5 inches it’s big but still fits in your pocket. Dell has adapted Android to the larger dimensions and the whole experience is more comfortable. Forget about the m in your URL, you can browse normally. The 5 MP camera is great for videos an pictures, it comes with edit software. On the negative it uses an unusual charging cable and the power button is too close to the camera button. Will be even better with Froyo. It is the biggest smartphone but it is thin and light, much smaller than an iPad.

According to The Edge, Dell Malaysia is offering Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) across the board to all 5,000-odd employees in Malaysia.

Late last month, Dell Inc announced a 48% decline in net income to US$351 million (RM1.3 billion) for the fourth quarter of its financial year 2009 (4QFY09) from US$679 million a year earlier.

Sources told The Edge Financial Daily that employees had been informed of the decision and had until the end of the month to make their decisions on whether to take up the offer.

When contacted, Dell Malaysia confirmed that under the Malaysian initiative, the VSS had been offered to all the 5,000 Malaysian staff on Penang island, Bukit Tengah in the mainland and Cyberjaya. However, the actual number of staff that Dell Malaysia targeted to let go is not known.

According to my source, Dell offering 1.5 months for anyone worked 1 year + 1 month extra paid up(not sure what is this performance bonus(pro rates) + contractact bonus(pro rates) and resignation noticed paid out. Said for example, if worked for 2 years, probably can get about 6 months salary and I wish I can.
