Indian-based Tata Communications will today announce $430 million in investments across Asia-Pacific reported by FT.com.

It will build a new data center in Singapore and complete the Intra Asia cable that runs from Japan to southeast Asia.

CEO Narasimhan Srinath said despite the economic slump the firm was committed to its plan to invest $1.5 billion over the next three years in emerging markets.

Tata recently bought a majority stake in South African telco Neotel. “We want to increase our presence in Africa, where there is strong growth potential, but future investments depend on demand and financing,” said Srinath.

COO Vinod Kumar will announce details at a press briefing in Singapore this afternoon.

A quick question for myself and probably you, why not choose Malaysia for the new data center?

While we’re(Malaysian) talking about setup Google office in Malaysia recently. In fact, Google is considering establish the largest off-shore data center in Taiwan.

According to the Chinese-language Commercial Times newspaper reported by Digitimes

Taiwan Economic Affairs Minister Steve Chen indicated that MOEA is making efforts to attract Google’s investment but Google has not yet filed an application with MOEA, indicated the paper. The lot of land is located in an industrial park developed by MOEA, noted the paper.

I think it would be great if Google can setup a new office and data center in Malaysia especially Cyberjaya(Malaysia Cyber City)
