Skype 3.8 for Windows Released

By Planet Lowyat - May 1, 2008

Less than a month after releasing a public beta of Skype 3.8 for Windows, the company has launched a public version of the updated internet telephony client.

As a point release, you shouldn’t expect to find a ton of new features in Skype 3.8. Most of the changes are under the hood, but users should notice improvement. In the real world, this translates to significantly reduced background noise, meaning fewer dropped calls, less delay, fewer cut-outs and less background noise. The new version should also do a better job of automatically configuring your firewall and router settings.

Skype has also hidden away user profile images from incoming requests. This might not sound like a big deal, but if you’ve ever received a request from someone with an avatar you’d rather not display on your work computer, this update could be a life saver.

The release also includes a number of video-related bug fixes, own UPnP implementation and other tweaks. And even if you’re happy with an older version of Skype, they recommend upgrading to the latest.
