Page Rank Add-Ons for Chrome
by Planet Lowyat on 28/05/09 at 5:50 pm
According to Wikipedia,
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).
The name “PageRank” is a trademark of Google, and the PageRank process has been patented (U.S. Patent 6,285,999). However, the patent is assigned to Stanford University and not to Google. Google has exclusive license rights on the patent from Stanford University. The university received 1.8 million shares of Google in exchange for use of the patent; the shares were sold in 2005 for $336 million.

Not working
Very clear upto step (07)
What’s pagerank.crx? From where it should be copied? Just paste in C drive?
Open Chrome with “file:///C:/pagerank.crx”
What does this mean?

I can’t add -enable-extension to the target line, it sais that the name is not valid (windows) and only because of this I get “extension is not enabled” from Chrome
What could be the problem?

I had similar problems as you guys so hopefully I can help you out now that I got it working.
- In step 4 you downloaded pagerank.crx I think. If you hit ctrl-J you should see it in your download list and be able to click “Show in folder” to copy it and paste it in C:/.
- locate the Chrome shortcut as stated above but paste this in instead “–enable-extensions”. Notice 2 dashes in front. Type them in manually if it doesn’t work. I copied from this page and vasanth.in but it was the wrong hyphen or something. Restart Chrome from this shortcut.
- Open a new tab and try typing file:///C:/pagerank.0.3.crx which is the name of the file that I downloaded if you are getting an error or check what the name of the file is that you downloaded with ctrl-J and use that filename.
- follow the rest of the instructions from step 10.
