Firefox 2 vs Firefox 3 Beta 3 Memory Usage

by on 13/02/08 at 6:43 pm

I take the opportunity to compare the memory usage between Firefox 2.0.0.12 and Firefox 3 beta 3 on my machine which is running on same Operating System(Windows Vista), same time, same web site(Firefox session) and Firefox 3 show me the amazing result!

FIREFOX version 2.0.0.12

FIREFOX 3 BETA 3

Firefox 2 took 82592k memory and Firefox 3 beta 3 took 48402k memory only. It’s nearly 50%! I think I will continue using Firefox 3.

As mentioned in Firefox 3 beta3 release note:

[Improved in Beta 3!] Memory usage: Over 350 individual memory leaks have been plugged, and a new XPCOM cycle collector completely eliminates many more. Developers are continuing to work on optimizing memory use (by releasing cached objects more quickly) and reducing fragmentation. Beta 3 includes more than 50 improvements to memory use over the previous beta.
