AMD has announced 4 new processors aimed at the desktop market. The new CPUs are based on existing architectures, but have apparently been streamlined for greater stability and longevity, improved productivity and energy savings.

These new processors are:

• 2.4-GHz Phenom X4 9750B Quad-Core
• 2.4-GHz Phenom X3 8750B Triple-Core
• 2.9-GHz Athlon X2 5600B Dual-Core
• 2.5-GHz Athlon X2 4850B Dual-Core

There was no news on price or exactly when these new chips will start tipping up in our business class PCs, but it can’t be far away.

The AOl company announced today that it has acquired Socialthing! FriendFeed Competitor company.

After the acquisition closes,AOL says that Socialthing will become a part of the company’s People Networks division. Currently, AOL’s People Networks division is made up of social platforms, like Bebo, AIM, ICQ, Goowy, and Yedda, that AOL believes, will lead the company’s online presence going forward.

The acquisition of Socialthing, which is still in private beta, strongly suggests AOL is trying to become a major player in the social networking space and attempting to capitalize on some of the fads of the day. In just the past few months,AOL acquired Bebo and launched a lifestreaming initiative within AIM that has pushed the company towards a more community-driven focus.

The New York Times is reporting that T-Mobile will be the first carrier to offer Android. According to them, the HTC phone will go on sale in the US “before Christmas, perhaps as early as October.” The NYT’s sources also say that the 5-row QWERTY slider from that Dream video (embedded after the break) matches the HTC device that T-Mobile will sell. The device is still waiting for FCC approval with a three-way Google, T-Mobile, and HTC announcement coming as early as September. The deal is expected to be exclusive making it the only Android phone available in the US this year.
